the voters who are already obama voters, so people like latino voters who lean obama but might not vote anyway, they're trying to get them energized to go out and vote. union voters. then women who are already leaning to obama. the second point is to get early voters out to the polls because that's where the obama team feels like their machine, their ground game, actually makes a difference. they think they have the numbers. the question is can you get them there on election day, if not, get them out early. that made a big difference in 2008. they're trying to do it again this year. then you mentioned women voters. this is where they think the margin of difference can come in. there are a lot of undecided women voters, they think a margin of them and they trying to turn them at the very end, one way they are going to do it, bill clinton is hitting the trail with the president next week on monday. the first time the two men will stump together, going to three battleground states. we'll see that effort in action next week, anderson. >> jim, gloria, jessica, thanks. let us know what you th

cycles ago and you may remember george w. bush made a point of courting the latino vote. he was the texas governor and he even spoke spanish on the campaign trail. but governor mitt romney's position and the republican moves some of them on immigration and border control and health care, could be causing some problems and eroding some of that goodwill and the inroads that president obama -- president bush made in the latino community. that is the fastest growing part of the electorate and it is critical for president obama's campaign because he may, in fact, be banking, banking on latinos to win his re-election. the reason i can say that is because he actually made this extraordinarily telling comment to the "des moines register" in what at one point was an off the record interview, but that he and his campaign released. here's the quote -- but that raises some fascinating questions about mr. president obama's election strategy. our cnn contributor and daily beast senior columnist john avalon written a piece about this. i encourage you for wait for this interview to be over and then to yo

're probably not going to win there. and one of the primary reasons is because latinos in that state are just fed up with republicans. not so much on rhetoric, but because of the policies how do you fix that in your party and how frustrated are you? >> i'm not quite sure if it is policies and i'll tell you why. remember that the president's been very good. he promised in his first 12 months, he gave his word, to the country, and to the latino population in the country in particular that within the first 12 months he was going to do comprehensive immigration reform. he didn't do it. but by the way, look, look at senator reid's election. he did exceedingly well latino population because he promised he was going to present and pass the dream act. he did it. he did a version of it, by the way, without talking to anybody else. but then after that, after the election, he doesn't mention it anymore. he doesn't do it anymore. he hasn't even proposed it anymore. so we see this time and time again. so it really is rhetoric. it's not policy. on the policies, look at the increase in poverty. the group of

that we've got the latino locked up, we've got the women locked up we can then throw latina women over whelmingly the domestic workers under the bus. jerry brown should not have vetoed that bill. it's democrats taking advantage of the fact that right now latinos and women don't feel they can go to the republican party. the sickness in the republican party on these issues is -- jerry brown should be ashamed of himself. >> don't you think that's a broader pattern in the democratic party? >> it could be. >> you have social issues a lot of places are trumping economic issues. even in new york andrew cuomo maybe signed the bill you're describing, but when cuomo wants to shore up his base, he does gaye marriage and when he wants to come to the marriage, this is something economic liberals should be concerned about that social liberalism is sort of the only liberalism that really matters. >> and i'm delighted that van brought jerry brown up. one, i think van is right. the democratic party does take advantage of its constituencies. i would argue it's taken advantage of latinos for a long time.
